I'm Brad and I live Palm City, Fl. I’m 56 and I’m a quadriplegic (quad) due to a spinal cord injury (SCI)
I was injured 40 years ago racing BMX at the age of 16 (a long time ago, but who’s counting lol). I was very accomplished with years of experience and during a race, I was seriously injured shattering my 4th cervical vertebra in my neck. This caused an incomplete SCI which left me paralyzed from the chest down.
I spent the next 6 months in the hospital and rehab learning how to live and cope with my profoundly altered life. I now have to use a wheelchair to get around. It was and still is very tough to deal with, but through it all I have kept a positive and realistic attitude. "I live life to its fullest." It's a cliché, but it best describes how I now live my life. I now realize how much little things we all take for granted. I focus on what I can do, not what I can't. My injury does not define me, who I am and what I do does.
I was able to graduate High School on time with my class and go on to College where I graduated with a degree in Business, had a successful career in Tech and Finance. I'm independent, semi-retired and living down in Florida where I enjoy the warm weather, the outdoors, watching and participating in motorsports, travel, naturism and swimming.
